Track League Championships, Battle Mountain

I finished the track season with a league championship, in which I ran the 100, 4×100 and the 800m Medley. I qualified 5th for the 100 in qualifiers, and they took the top 8. I had an awesome race, and I took 3rd, with a time of 13.33 seconds. My next race was the 4×100, in which we did decently well. I got the handoff nicely, but got overtaken at the end, taking 3rd. We had a time of 55.05 seconds.

The Medley was the event I knew we could do well in, and we did. We had a big lead right from our second 100, and by the time I got it for my 200, we were totally ahead by a lot. We had a good 400, with my friend Max running it good (He’s a lot better at the mile though), and taking us to victory. It turned out we took the school record, with a time of 2:04. Pretty good way to end the season, I think. I had a great season, and here are my stats:

High Jump: 2x First Place, 1x Second Place, 1x Third Place

100m Dash: 1x Second Place, 1x Third Place, 1x 5th Place

200m Dash: 1x Third Place

800m Run: 1x Second Place

100m Hurdles: 1x 7th Place

4x100m Relay: 1x First Place, 3x Third Place, 1x DQ

800m Medley Relay: 1x First Place, 1x Fourth Place

I had a total of 3 Regular Meets, 1 Relay Meet, and 2 Championship Meets. I think it’s pretty cool that I got a first place on my first meet ever!

Chaucer: The Clerk’s Tale

Once there was a marquis, who lived in Italy. His name was Walter, and all the people loved him. They only wanted one thing of him, and that was that he should get himself a wife. He decided to go to one of the poorest men in town’s house. He asks to marry his daughter. The man replies that he couldn’t refuse if he wanted, but consents. They are married the next day. Now the woman that he married, Griselda, is very submissive and kind, knowing that she doesn’t deserve to live in the palace, and sees the whole thing as a privilege.

Walter decided to test his wife, to see how devoted she really is to him. When she has a daughter, he tells her he will have it killed. She submits, and gives him the baby. He tells one of his generals to take it to his sister and hide it there. Griselda is sad, but nonetheless, she submits to her husband and keeps her peace. 5 years later, she has a boy, and Walter does the same thing, telling her that he is going to kill the boy, and tells his general to take the boy to his sister.

His wife, again submitting to her husband, gives up her child. He decides to put his wife to one more test. He tells her he is re-marrying, and that she must prepare for his wedding. He brings his daughter and son, and says that he’s marrying his daughter. Right before it happens, he’s on the stage, and tells her that the whole thing was a trick, and that these are her children. She cries tears of joy, hugging and kissing her children, shortly before fainting. And that’s the end of the story. His daughter marries a rich prince, and his son becomes his successor

Summit Home Track Meet

I had another track meet today, and to start it off, 7 teams decided not to come due to snow/rain. So we only had like 3 teams competing against us, and only 1 for the High Jump, which was my first event. I, of course won it, cause the other team got out at like 3’10” or 4′. I had a 100 after, and got second to Jacob, who I was neck and neck with the whole time, and my time was 13.95, cause the track was wet and made of asphalt, so I couldn’t wear spikes.

After the 100, I got ready for our 4×100, which we did not practice for and just went for it. We ended up taking 1st, with me running the last 100, beating the 8th grade team by 3/10ths of a second, with 57.1 seconds as our time. Right after the 4×100, I had about 20 seconds to prepare for the 800m run, which I’ve never run before. I completed the first lap great, but started feeling the pain at around halfway through the second lap. I took second, with a time of 2:51.

I have one last track meet on Tuesday, the championship finals, which should be fun. I’m running the 100, the 4×100 and the Sprint Medley.

Battle Mountain Track Meet Qualifiers

Yesterday I had another track meet, which were the qualifiers for the finals, which are on Tuesday. The High Jump didn’t have qualifiers, so this was the finals for it. I did the High Jump and the 100, cause my other 2 events, the 4×100 and the Sprint Medley automatically move to Tuesday for some reason. The meet started at like 5:15 PM, and went until like 9:45. My first event was the High Jump, and I knew I had a chance to place, cause everyone’s highest height they’ve jumped was about 4’4″. Almost through at 4’6″, I had to take a pause to go run the 100. I ran it in 13:37, and I think I can get maybe a tenth faster if I went again. I took 3rd or 4th in my heat, and 5th overall, but that would still be enough to take me to the finals.

High Jumping
High Jumping

I went back to the High Jump after that, and missed 4’6″ twice, but then got it on my last try. I made 4’8″ on my first try, but then barely hit the bar on 4’10”. The last guy I was jumping against did everything I did, he got 2 scratches, I got 2 scratches, but he got scratches on 4’8″ and I got scratches on 4’6″, so I got 2nd overall. It was a pretty fun meet, we got to mess around for a while on the high jump until they put it away, and I got home at like 12:30.
