And, here I am back with another school narration of Galileo. Chapter 10 of this book that I narrate is now read-able!
Galileo takes his telescope to the pope, who politely disagree’s with Galileo that the Earth isn’t the center of the universe, that is, until he looks through the telescope and sees Jupiter’s moons himself! The Grand Duchess disagrees with him, and he writes her a letter, saying politely and carefully that there are the scientists and there are the holy men. The men who wrote the bible were holy men, but not scientists. Galileo’s enemies use this as an opportunity to say that he is against the church, and in the end, get him to sign an agreement saying that he will not teach about what he’s been teaching, leaving a big cliffhanger…
Alright, short post: My top 3 personal favorite Cryptids!
1: Oarfish
This is an actual confirmed sea serpent, growing up to 36 feet long. I always liked sea serpents or sea monsters, like the Kraken, or the Leviathan. They’re pretty rare, 2 washed up on shore in October 2013, and another was spotted in March 2014.
2: Hellhound
This fabled creature I first heard about in Greek Mythology. These dogs live in the Underworld, serving Hades, the God of the Underworld. I was surprised to see that it was an actual rumored animal! There’s not much info about it being real though, so I doubt it exists. It’s pretty cool though!
3: Giant Squid:
This is actually a recently confirmed Cryptid. It can grow up to 43 feet! 2004 was the first sighting, by Japanese researchers. It’s size is only outmatched by the colossal squid, at 46 feet (why didn’t I write about that, you ask? Cause I already started writing about the Giant Squid before I learned there was a Colossal Squid). This is an amazing animal to see, and to draw…. I need to draw that! I’ll be right back! *pretends to run off* Nevermind, I’ll do it later.
Thanks for reading this rather short narration of my top 3 favorite Cryptids!
So, we’re now in Portland, cause our house in Eugene didn’t work out, so we drove another 2 hours to Portland, where we’re now staying in a friends house. We got some more of the famous amazing Voodoo Donuts, we ate at Pok Pok, which had one of the best desserts I have eaten, and some of the best chicken wings I’ve eaten!
Doing more school, gotta finish soon, hopefully by the end of June. We got free lunch 2 days ago at Zoup! because they weren’t open but they were training the employees by doing real orders, except its free. We’re at Little Big Burger, eating (what else?), and we just got our bikes and camping gear back, so more biking! And… That’s really all that’s happening in my life right now: Eating, School, Traveling.
Alright, so I’ve posted a few random things like Longest Words and Phobia’s, so here’s the third installment on a subject most people know but don’t know the name for. Cryptids are mythical rumored creatures, most fake, some other animals mistaken, and really rarely, real. Here’s a few lists. Some of the most famous ones, and my favorites.
1: Bigfoot/Sasquatch:
Blurry image of Bigfoot
We all know what this one is, the mysterious giant ape, which supposedly inhabits the Pacific Northwest. This one is highly debated, and my opinion is, it’s not real. He makes for a really cool character though! I’ll be putting the links to these Cryptids pages at the bottom
2: Loch Ness Monster:
The Surgeon’s Photo
Again, most of us know this rumored sea creature that supposedly inhabits Loch Ness in the Scottish Highlands. A lot of people think the Loch Ness Monster is actually a surviving Plesiosaur, which were around in the Triassic Period. On May 2nd, 1933, someone reported seeing this monster. The original photograph of it is called The Surgeon’s Photograph, and is confirmed to be fake. People have reported seeing it a lot, and, one story which was on Wikipedia is, a man was looking at his hometown on Apple Maps, and saw ripples in the water in the Loch. This was just in April 2014, and this is the account of the monster I find most funny, cause it could be caused by a log, or a boat.
3: Chupacabra:
A drawing of what the Chupacabra should look like, based on the description
Not quite as well known as the first two, but still famous, is the Chupacabra. His name literally means ‘Goat Sucker’, which is what he does. He supposedly sucks the blood of goats, sort of like a vampire. His first ‘sighting’ was in 1995 in Puerto Rico. His appearance is that of a reptilian creature, scales and all. Most reported sightings are coyotes or foxes with mange, a disease, which, among other things, makes the animal lose their fur/hair
4: Yeti/Abominable Snowman:
A random image of the Yeti
This one is one of my personal favorites. He supposedly inhabits the Himalayas, and is a huge hairy humanoid creature. People have supposedly seen this one while climbing. A few explanations are that it could be a bear, or a hermit. Edmund Hilary and Tenzing Norgay, the first climbers of Mount Everest, reported seeing him in 1953.
5: Jersey Devil:
The Jersey Devil
This one comes from New Jersey, and is like a devil kangaroo with wings and hooves, as I describe it. He supposedly emits a horrible blood-curdling scream, but people have never captured one alive. This seems like a hoax, but that’s just my opinion. There’s also not as many sightings as Nessie or the Yeti, but it still is a popular Cryptid.
And that wraps up part 1 of 2 of my Cryptids lists. I hope you liked this, I’ll put the links down there *points down* so you can read some more if that’s your thing.
